Pets‘n’Vets began life 40 years ago this year (1st May 1971) when George Leslie opened a brand new veterinary practice in 1478 Pollokshaws Road. Initially as a single-handed enterprise. The Pollokshaws surgery has expanded to include the two neighbouring premises and from one veterinary surgeon to seven.

Having worked for 16 years as a sole practitioner, George, in 1987 took on a partner- his former student Ivor Lough, The new partnership sought a new challange and founded our first branch Surgery in Crookfur near Newton Mearns.

In the following years, the practice continued to build its reputation for excellent veterinary care, first class service and friendly staff.

The partners fostered a family feeling within the practice. The result was (and is) that staff stay longterm; are able to further their training, gaining qualifications and building their knowledge. Most importantly staff are able to create real, life long relationships with our friends and their pets.

In 2010 George retired from veterinary in order to concentrate on his political career. Ivor was joined in the partnership by Ross Allan and Oliver (Mike) Jackson. Ross had been working with Pets‘n’Vets since 2002 and Oliver had been working in various veterinary practices in London. Oliver and Ross had strong connections with the Practice, both having been mentored by the practice since their early teens. The newly formed partnership boasts three fantastic vets; all having trained at Pets‘n’Vets, all having been educated at Glasgow University Veterinary School and all having grown up wthin 1 mile of the Pollokshaws practice.

As George and Ivor had in 1987, the new partnership sought new horizons and Queens Park Veterinary Surgery was brought under the Pets‘n’Vets banner.

Pets‘n’Vets is known locally and further afield for its excellent standard of pet healthcare. The practice regularly accepts second opinion cases from all over the country. Our vets are often invited to speak on behalf of Scotlands Vets in the national media, at national veterinary events and even in the Scottish Parliament.

Our ethos is one of diligence and honesty brought to you in our relaxed approachable style, our sense of humour befitting our Glasgow roots.

For over 30 years this Glasgow sense of humour has been summed up by our cartoons, all brought to you by our resident cartoonist Malky McCormick.
